Public Health Warning
Fragrance chemicals are linked to so many health problems now that they should be banned from indoor environments just like smoking.

Fragrance in the workplace: what managers need to know
” It took decades for the workplace to acknowledge the dangers of smoking and to recognize the deadly effects of exposure to second-hand smoke. Once acknowledged, it was a few more years before the workplace became safe for workers from the dangers of second hand smoke. This paper suggests that fragrance is following the same trajectory”…

CDC Indoor Environmental Quality Policy
Until toxic chemicals are banned from products, signs warning people using the premises should be mandated.

A crude edit from an original bylaw regarding smoking, to show an example of what should be done until bans are in effect. Note: bans or fragrance-free policies would not be necessary if fragrances did not contain so many allergens and toxic chemicals.
Note:
Toxic trespass from both smoke and fragrance chemicals can cause serious and disabling health problems for “sensitive” people living in multi-unit housing or working in multi-unit environments. HVAC systems transport air throughout buildings, so policies must usually be universal to be effective.
Do we want this?
or this?
The evidence is clear…
Breathing in fragrance chemicals is harmful to your health, harmful to child health, harmful to pet health, harmful to neighbor health, harmful to co-worker health, harmful to everyone’s health.
If we don’t do something about indoor air quality, this could be you.
I started my blog a few weeks ago — lifeinthecitywithafuture.wordpress.com. I didn’t want the focus to be mostly about my MCS. However, I find I cannot live with becoming a disabled teacher from the toxins in fragrances in my school. I have decided it is my purpose to find a way to make all schools (and public places) toxin free. Today, on my site I have added a page where I am linking to any site that supports a healthy environment and the elimination of MCS as an issue. I have linked to yours. If you do not want me to for some reason please let me know. Thanks for getting the word out.
Hi Colleen! Nice to meet you (sorry it’s because of the MCS). I know quite a few teachers who have had to give up their careers due to becoming disabled from working in unhealthy school environments. Poor children being subjected to that too!
Did you see my post on resources for healthier school environments?
Oh, I see you are aware of the TDSB program, but there are more tools available here.

I’m not sure though that this blog belongs in a category called “support those with MCS” as my main purpose is to share environmental health resources and links now, not just about MCS/ES, but how the toxic substances that disable us also eventually cause health problems for everyone in some way or another… with a few personal stories (more from the past) thrown in… I’m not receiving support for doing this (and my health isn’t really well enough to be social here). I guess I just don’t understand the name/purpose of the category. Maybe it would make more sense to me if it said support FOR those…?
