This presentation by Professor Olle Johansson about the biological and health effects of electromagnetic pollution was given to a group of Industrial Engineering students in Barcelona, Spain and was recorded in October 2015. We are fortunate to be able to have access to easy to understand scientific presentations of this caliber.
Professor Johansson, from the Neuroscience department at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, starts by saying the first problem is that they have no women in the class and then discussed how EHS is recognized as a functional impairment in Sweden, and how the environment must be modified to accommodate and include people with a functional impairment. (His recently published paper on the subject is also available below). He went on to describe other issues with wireless radiation and encouraged the class to come up with solutions.
I think it’s worth taking the time to watch, but I like learning about the things that are affecting our lives, and what we can and have to do now and to protect future generations, so that they have a chance at more than mere survival.

He mentioned this report in the presentation:
Bio Initiative Report 2012
A rationale for a biologically-based public exposure standard for electromagnetic fields
Conclusions
BIOEFFECTS ARE CLEARLY ESTABLISHED
Bioeffects are clearly established and occur at very low levels of exposure to electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation. Bioeffects can occur in the first few minutes at levels associated with cell and cordless phone use. Bioeffects can also occur from just minutes of exposure to mobile phone masts (cell towers), WI-FI, and wireless utility ‘smart’ meters that produce whole-body exposure. Chronic base station level exposures can result in illness.

Here is the newly published paper by Prof Olle Johansson on EHS
a functional impairment due to an inaccessible environment.
In Sweden, electrohypersensitivity is recognized as a functional impairment which implies only the environment as the culprit. The Swedish view provides persons with this impairment a maximal legal protection, it gives them the right to get accessibility measures for free, as well as governmental subsidies and municipality economic support, and to provide them with special Ombudsmen (at the municipality, the EU, and the UN level, respectively), the right and economic means to form disability organizations and allow these to be part of national and international counterparts, all with the simple and single aim to allow persons with the functional impairment electrohypersensitivity to live an equal life in a society based on equality. They are not seen as patients, the do not have an overriding medical diagnosis, but the ‘patient’ is only the inferior and potentially toxic environment. This does not mean that a subjective symptom of a functionally impaired can not be treated by a physician, as well as get sick-leave from their workplace as well as economic compensation, and already in the year 2000 such symptoms were identified in the Internal Code of Diagnoses, version 10 (ICD-10; R68.8/now W90), and have been since. But the underlying cause still remains only the environment.

Interesting. Just a few days ago I was reading an article about some students in the US suing their schools. The article claimed that it has been proven that all though people claiming to be sickened by EHS are definitely sick it is not from the EHS. Does any of this sound familiar with what doctors have and are still saying about MCS not being real — even though it is recognized as a disability?! With MCS it is hard enough to avoid toxic chemicals especially in fragrances. I cannot imagine the impossibility of going in public with all of the cell phones and avoiding that issue. Good for Sweden for taking care of its people.
I think it was at the beginning of this year (but maybe not, my sense of time has changed, with one day being almost identical to the next for so many years) I heard an interview with a doctor who diagnoses people with EHS, and they also interviewed a psychiatrist (I think that was his designation, aside from industry puppet) who said EHS will “go away”, that it took about 10 years for MCS/sick building syndrome/etc to “go away”…
To “go away”??? There are more and more people becoming disabled with chronic illnesses, pain, etc, that can all be connected to toxic environments, including emf/emr-pollution (but it’s very good for the pharmaceutical industry profits when people present with multi-system symptoms that can’t be tied down because our biology is being so altered by all these exposures, and the testing methods haven’t caught up – except they are catching up, I will share in a new blog post).
It was in the early 2000s when something happened, as if a cloud descended and suddenly all work on IAQ and health effects stopped… and air “freshener” and “forever fresh” laundry product ads came on tv every 15 minutes… I will dig up the interview quote, it was quite validating to me to finally hear that something had gone on behind the scenes, but it was the 1st time I heard it confirmed.
Up till then a lot of excellent research was being conducted, and progress with recognition and understanding was being made.
This year, as the evidence of adverse effects from wireless has become so strong (I have a few posts with references to some of the goings on), the industry is resorting to massive attack ads and campaigns.
Blame the smoker when they get cancer from smoking something addictive that they were manipulated into buying…
The ad campaigns for cigarettes, wireless devices, fragrances and fragranced products, junk “foods”, etc… cost industry billions, and they hire psychologists and psychiatrists to learn how to craft them to be more effective.
It’s very difficult for people to accept that they’ve been manipulated (once they are addicted), so they will shoot the messenger who tries to warn and protect them instead of those who profit from causing the harm…
Fortunately, there are some very dedicated scientists out there who are doing everything they can to alert us to the truths, that we have to change what we are doing to avoid extinction.
Yes, it is really that serious now – look at how many people are on pharmaceutical drugs now (about 75% of the population) and how many children have chronic health problems, even from birth…
So… get wired with ALL your phones, internet, baby monitors (do you really even need one of those???) … Stop using toxic products, stop eating packaged food and make your own… Contact your elected reps and tell them to make laws that protect us from industries who profit from harming us, instead of protecting the industries from us… It will be hard, but it will be worth it…
I’ve had MCS issues for between 25 and 3 0 years with my symptoms only getting significantly worse.
Wireless saturation is triggering more virulent mold growth apparently too, along with other changes in our bodies, so a lot of people have both MCS and EHS now.
Here, it falls under the umbrella term “environmental sensitivities”, recognized as a disability in the Canadian and Ontario Human Rights Codes.
I think it is time to win the lottery and buy myself an island far far away from toxic stuff.
Now we have to worry about climate change, rising water levels, and big storms on those islands too
