TTC launches wi-fi network at two subway stations

Great (not)… The TTC is erecting more accessibility barriers for people who are disabled with EHS, and it’s a big move backwards for protecting the health of children and pregnant women.

Accessibility wise, this is similar to removing ramps for people who are mobility disabled. It creates barriers to access and also subjects some people to further pain, suffering and disability.

Blanketing the subway system with microwave radiation is NOT a good idea when independent research shows enough harm caused by exposures that wireless is now declared a class 2 carcinogen…

Using the precautionary approach would be the wise thing to do.

See C4ST for more information about wireless technologies and health.

MCS/ES Page

I have finally added a Page to the top of the blog that deals with MCS/ES under the following headings:

MCS – Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, etc
Environmental Sensitivities
Categorical guidelines for levels of disability

Former President of Microsoft Canada On Wi-Fi

I just listened to an eye-opening radio interview with the former President of Microsoft Canada. A couple of women with EHS were also interviewed.

Andy Oudman (1290 AM CJBK, London ON) and Pam Killeen interview Frank Clegg, former president of Microsoft Canada and head of Citizens 4 Safe Technology (www.c4st.org). They speak about the potential hazards associated with WiFi technology

Please listen to the program and take precautions for your own health:

Accessible Parking and Invisible Disabilities

Not all disabilities are visible!

accessible parking 1https://www.facebook.com/EnvironmentalIllnessAtlanta

Yes there are a few selfish people out there who abuse any privilege or opportunity they can, but they are in the minority. Most people who look “normal” and use accessible permits have a proven, legitimate, legal, medical, human right to do so.

Accessibility, Human Rights and MCS/ES

Someday, indoor air and environmental quality information could be posted on the front door of every building and most buildings and services (products and materials too) could be safe and accessible for everyone

ACCESSIBILITY 2

In the meantime, we have Human Rights laws (in some places) that we can use in order to gain safe(r) access to neccessities like employment, housing, apartment buildings… facilities (restaurants, shops, hotels and theatres…) and services (health care etc), transit and other public places, so it is a good start, since access is something many of us with MCS/ES do not have now, although equal access is, for now, probably too much of a stretch in this chemical and wireless addicted society.

Some (but not all) of the information and resources I present here are from Ontario, Canada, but they can be used to inspire similar actions everywhere.

MCS/ES Symptoms and Environmental Incitants

Information about the materials most likely to cause adverse health effects, and the kinds of symptoms commonly experienced from exposures, copied from the 2007 Canadian Human Rights Commission’s  document “The Medical Perspective on Environmental Sensitivities By: Margaret E. Sears (M.Eng., Ph.D.), and a few other resources and links follow:

Group of parents upset Peel schools may install Wi-Fi

Children’s health is being affected by WiFi

“Frank Clegg, Citizens 4 Safe Technology and former president of Microsoft Canada, says Wi-Fi is an unproven technology and until it’s considered safe, we shouldn’t be using children as a science experiment.”

Having invisible disabilities can present challenges most people don’t think of.

Indoor air can be too polluted for some of us to safely breathe. Those of us with MCS/ES can develop serious and life-threatening symptoms from breathing in toxic chemicals commonly found in indoor air. Even a mask may not be enough to protect us.

Or we may be having a bad Fibromyalgia flare and just be in too much pain to shop.

So what can we do when we need something?

Harvard Medical School Associate Professor Speaks about MCS: Video

Dr. L. Christine Oliver is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

This is an excellent half hour presentation.

Dr Oliver packs so much about the issues faced by people with MCS into the first 16 minutes of this video. If you can’t watch the whole video, at least watch this much.  Alison Johnson finishes off by reading from her important book Amputated Lives.

Alison Johnson is the author/producer/director of books and documentaries on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. Visit http://www.alisonjohnsonmcs.com to download a transcript or to purchase her books or DVDs.

You Can Help Provide Medically Required Safe Housing!

Safe, non-toxic housing is the primary medical need of people with MCS/ES and EHS. The number of lives affected and needing this kind of medically required housing is growing, and far too little is being done by the various governments or medical associations to address the needs of all the people who are being injured and disabled by common everyday chemical and EMF/EMR exposures.

For us, safe housing is like the cast after we break a bone. It protects us and allows us to heal while preventing re-injury, especially if the housing is in an area where the outdoor air is also safe for us to breathe. Especially for those of us who have been repeatedly and seriously injured. That means no dryer vents that emit hazardous laundry chemicals, no pesticide use, or industrial emissions or busy roads nearby.

The good people at  the Environmental Health Association of Québec (ASEQ-EHAQ) see and understand the need and are working to do something about it, by developing an ECOASIS in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, but they need your help to make it happen.
