I recently came across this website which shows what else Tony does with his time: http://thatroundhouse.info/mission.htm Many wonderful photos and videos to explore.
We need more safe and natural housing that respects the environment and our health!
According to Statistics Canada, between 2005 and 2010 the rates of people diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in Canada increased significantly.
The number of people diagnosed with MCS increased by 31%
The number of people diagnosed with FM increased by 15%
The number of people diagnosed with CFS increased by 24%
As far as I know, they are no longer collecting information about these conditions, so updated prevalence statistics may not be forthcoming, despite these alarming increases and every indication that the amount of people being affected will continue to rise.

Thinking about all the toxic gifts out there, I thought that compiling a list of safeR non-toxic gift ideas might be helpful, as sometimes it’s hard to think of (or choose) something when we are asked if we have too much brain fog going on. I know it has been for me.
I think the greatest gift would be if family and friends went fragrance and chemical free so we could enjoy their company.
Here’s a few other ideas I thought of:

Non-toxic bedwarmers…
If you have spare safe socks, you can drop the jars into socks so that in case you kick them out of bed, the glass would be contained, but I haven’t kicked one out yet! Use the 2 piece lids as they are watertight, you can shake them a bit to make sure there are no leaks when the lids are getting older.

Car Repair Safety Precautions (when taking the car in for any work)
Would you please ensure that the enclosed notice is taped visibly to the driver’s side car window, and that anyone who works on the car is made aware of the precautions necessary to prevent an accidental use of products which would render the car unusable to me.

I have severe environmental and chemical sensitivities and allergies, etc. to a wide assortment of chemicals contained in cleaning and other petrochemical products.
In order to make sure the car remains safe for me to drive, can you please take the following precautions:
No-one with gas, oil, cologne, aftershave, scented soap or lotion residues on their hands should touch the car interior.
No smoking in the car, or anyone who has just been smoking.
Use clean disposeable gloves or paper towel to touch doorknobs, handles, steering wheel, etc.
Make sure the seat and steering wheel are fully covered before touching or sitting.
(I may provide a mylar emergency blanket to cover the seat with)
Do not use WD-40 or other products on door hinges or anywhere inside. If any interior lubrication is necessary, please advise and we will research a safe alternative product.
Do not, under any circumstances, use any cleaning or air “freshening” products in or near the car.

Some of you may remember Gillian McCarthy from a few years ago. Her housing situation was atrocious. I lost touch due to my own housing crisis, and only recently started remembering her and wondered what had happened.
To my delight, some people have finally taken it into their own hands to keep her from freezing this winter. Somehow, they are making a small, safe, warm natural den for her, but they need our help. This is so long overdue, it brings tears to my eyes.

I’ve just added a new page to the top of the blog.
If you are looking for safer clothing, textiles, footwear or bedding, I’m adding links of places that offer them to hopefully make the search a little bit easier, since so many people land on this blog when searching for chemical-free clothing.
Since the level of sensitivities varies between people, there’s no way to say that something will be safe for everyone, or how many washings it might take to make something safe.
Some of the places deal with chemically sensitive clientele on a regular basis. This doesn’t mean that you can assume they know what you as an individual might need, so please be very clear if you have severe sensitivities. Discuss in advance the circumstances for returns also, as it’s unlikely anyone will accept anything that has been washed a dozen times if it still isn’t safe enough for you.
Some places will wrap things in extra cellophane or foil or even plastic, if postal fragrance and pesticide residues are of concern. Other places might not be willing to do that. Ask, and ask nicely.
This list is just a starting point for people who are searching, and will be a work in progress… Also, if I only listed places that met my standards in all areas, there wouldn’t be a list… And I’d be naked…
